You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

This is among the most popular requests, but unfortunately there’s no current way to do this short of having someone on Parliament Hill do a count. I can and do report when a member doesn’t vote, but we’re unable to tell the difference between an absence and an abstention, and many days there simply aren’t any votes in the House. There’s been some noise about having Parliament release attendance records (which are currently self-reported by the parties but not made public), but at the moment those records simply don’t exist.

  2. Show donations and percent of vote each MP received in the last election.

Elections Canada has a publicly accessible structured list of donors and votes broken down by riding. It could be neat to include it on the site.

I’d love to have a French version of the site, but without funding it’s just too much for me to take on personally. If a programmer out there wants to take on the project, I’d be thrilled. From the openparliament developer wiki:

J’aimerais énormément avoir une version française du site. Je pense que, au lieu d’inclure les infos français dans la base de données actuelle, c’est meilleur de créer une site séparée, avec une differente base de données. (Ce projet nécessite non pas seulement traduire les pages HTML de openparliament.ca, mais obtenir les versions françaises du Hansard et des autres documents qu’on utilise.)

  4. For each vote, indicate how the parties have whipped the vote. Ideally, have the feature indicate which MPs have dissented.

For each vote, indicate whether the vote is a one-line (free), two-line (cabinet), or three-line (whipped) vote for each party for which an MP votes.
This would make identifying dissenters easier. An advanced version of the feature would actually indicate the dissenters.
This is really important for MP democratic representation as opposed to party discipline.

  5. Tally MP Votes

I would like to see a list of how my MP voted on all sorts of topics since the last election so that people in my riding can see a summary of their MPs stand on the issues before elections.

I’d love to see similar sites in the provinces, and am eager to provide help and code to anyone who wants to build a provincial site. But the federal Parliament is more than enough of a project for lone-volunteer me.

  8. Add coverage of the Senate

THERE SHOULD BE A WHOLE SEPARATE SECTION FOR THEM! DEBATES, VOTES, SENATORS, COMMITTEES, ETC!

Those ladies and gentlemen work in the same building, we should be looking at what they're doing as well!

And I suggest possibly adding third section on the projects they work together on, such as the Library of Parliament.

    Thanks

The Senate is relatively low on my priority list for a couple of reasons. First, of course, it’s a much less powerful & politically relevant body than the House. And it’s also well behind the House in terms of technology: their data isn’t nearly as structured or sophisticated as the House’s, which makes automated coverage difficult.

But of course I’m interested to see how many people would want Senate information.

  9. Track similar/identical bills and link them together.

Some bills may expire before being passed or be defeated, but be reintroduced as basically the same thing. It can be hard keeping them straight, so it would be great if we could trace them forward and back. i.e. C-32/C-11, or C-54/C-30

  11. Enable users to create custom RSS feeds using search terms

Google News allows you to generate an RSS feed that contains articles matching search query.

I would like to have this as well, I am working on a site for a departmental intranet and a feed of all things discussed in Parliament related to our department mandate would be really useful.

This actually exists as a bit of a secret feature. It’s on the to-do list to test and polish this and allow e-mail alerts. But to get an RSS feed, just do a search, and look for the RSS icon (usually radiating semicircles on an orange background) in your browser’s address bar.

  12. Email how your MP votes.

Send me an email showing how my MP votes.

  13. Allow comments/tags on stuff MPs say

It would make fact checking easier.

  14. Display a bill's status code in the array provided in the main /bills endpoint.

If this is implemented, this will allow users to get the status of multiple bills at once with a single http request.

Sponsored bills are now listed in a member’s activity feed. I’ll leave this idea around, because I should probably add a full, historical list of sponsored bills as well (and not just the last few).

  18. City government councils tracked here as well

I would like this type of information for my city as well. I want to be able to see how my current Councillor has voted on all legislation that was put forward for a vote. I would like to be able to search on a topic and see what the reps have said. etc.

  19. I would like to help add more contact info for MPs (Facebook/LinkedIN/Google+/YouTube))

A great website! It would be great for users to be able to help you update the profiles with more contact info. MPs have facebook profiles and Pages, Google+ profiles and pages, YouTube account(s), sometimes multiple Twitter accounts, LinkedIN profile. And perhaps a link to the Elections Canada Map. (i can help with this, you don't need to enter the data, have most of it on my blog http://unschedulecannabis.blogspot.ca I just need a field to be able to enter it in, then you can verrify it's accuracy (or users can help with it's accuracy)
